Education Policy
The program for all age groups will include Christian religious training, including holiday celebrations. This will be accomplished through participation in short nondenominational Bible stories, songs, rhymes, and prayers. For infants and toddlers (1-24 months), work will be done to facilitate each child’s individual growth process in the following areas: Language Development - The children will learn language through interaction with the staff during diapering, feeding time, and playtime. The children will learn to feel trust and confidence towards Center staff with the soothing tone of their voices. Gross Motor Development - During this wonderful time of change and growth, children need to be exposed to large motor play. Children will begin to explore the environment in a wonderful “play” area in each room. They will also be taken for walks on good weather days. Fine Motor Development - The development of the hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity is important at this age level. Crawling, use of toys, teacher interaction, and the introduction of finger foods in the later months will all be used to contribute towards this aspect of growth. For children 25-60 months old -. As children turn two years of age, they develop skills in the different ways of learning. The Center will work to develop the following: Language Development - Children learn to express thoughts and concepts through language. The teachers will help children learn this through exercises and songs. Numbers are taught through songs, counting objects in the room, and fun activities during group time. Gross Motor Development - Children need large motor play, both indoors and outdoors, to develop healthy bodies. Climbing structures, playing with balls, riding bikes, and using other equipment are part of the fun and large muscle development in the Center. Fine Motor Development - Development of hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity is continued at this level. Some of the activities that are used to promote this development include painting, coloring, gluing, assembling puzzles, and working with play dough. These activities are incorporated into the daily schedule to further the development of the fine muscles. Social Development – Two-year-old children enjoy doing activities with other children and their teachers. Children are taught to respect the needs of other children by keeping their hands to themselves, using kind words, and respecting the toys and equipment of the Center. Gentle repetition of these basic rules is done daily to assist the children in developing respect. The curriculum will promote cultural diversity which enables children to begin to develop an anti-biased attitude about their world. It will also promote Christian attitudes, which go hand in hand. Outdoor activities will take place on days that the weather permits. Infants will be taken outside in strollers, and older children will be allowed to play under supervision in the outdoor play area. Early morning and late afternoon activities will consist of story time, songs, games, etc. Communication with parents about the curriculum, activities, schedules, etc. will be posted on bulletin boards at the Center Schedule of daily activities: Each room will post a daily schedule for their age group, for staff and parents review.
Termination of Enrollment
The Christ Church Child Care Center is committed to providing the best childcare possible. In order to do so, it may be necessary to discharge a child. Some of the reasons for this action may include (but not limited to): Behavioral problems of the child that jeopardizes the health and safety of other children. Physical problems of the child that prevent the center’s staff from meeting the child’s needs. Failure of parents to cooperate in the following ways: Failure to fill out and return required papers within the allowed time. Failure to pay fees in a timely fashion. Failure to have ongoing positive communication with the child’s teacher and the director of the child care. This will help to provide the best care for the child. Non-observance of Center’s policies. The well being of all the children enrolled cannot be compromised by the continued unacceptable behavior of a child. To avoid unacceptable behavior, the staff will model good behavior and will maintain consistent rules. It is the hope of the staff of the center that all children can behave appropriately. If a child does not, inappropriate behavior(s) cannot be tolerated indefinitely. It is the expectation that, through conversations with the child showing unacceptable behavior(s) and through conferences with the parent/guardian, the matter can be brought to a resolution within no more than two weeks. If it is not, the center can terminate the enrollment of the child. When a child behaves in inappropriate ways, the following steps will be taken before he/she is discharged: The teacher will try to talk about it with the child. If the inappropriate behavior continues, the parent/guardian will be told about the behavior. A conference including the teacher, the director, and the parent(s)/guardian(s) will take place to try to find a resolution to the matter. Suspension for one or two days. Refund of Fees: Since termination of a child is not something the center can be held responsible for and will be done only when other courses of action have been exhausted, no fees will be refunded to the parent/guardian when it occurs. Notice of Discharge: When a child enrolled in the center is discharged, the parent/guardian will receive both verbal and written notification. Discharge Initiation: The discharge of an enrolled child can be parent initiated, a mutual decision between the parent and the staff of the Center, or Center initiated. Documentation: The Center will keep, on file, a record of the inappropriate behavior of the child, the steps followed before the discharge, notes on the conversation with the parent(s)/guardian, notes from the conference with the teacher, parent/guardian, child, and Director of the Center, and a copy of the written notification sent to the parent/guardian. Outside Agency Involvement: There might be instances when a child is showing inappropriate behaviors that, as part of the process of seeking resolution to the matter, an outside agency can be of benefit. This can take place only when the parent/guardian and center staff agrees upon this as a way to address the situation. A social worker, a psychiatrist, or a child behavioral expert can be considered as a person who can assist in correcting the situation. Such referral will be at the expense of the parent or guardian. Decision Making Process: The Director of the Center in consultation with his/her staff will make the decision for termination. The Senior Pastor of Christ Church and the chairperson of the Child Care Ministry Team will be kept abreast of the situation and of the final outcome. Appeal Process: When a child is discharged, the parent/guardian can appeal the decision. The appeal must be submitted in writing to the Senior Pastor and/or the chairperson of the Child Care Ministry Team of Christ Church. Other Reasons: Other reasons for discharge can be, but are not limited to, lack of payment of fees, lack of compliance with the Center’s policies, or parental conduct on the premises not acceptable by the Center.
Records and Policy Information Access to Children’s Records:
Only the parent and/or guardian of a child will have access to his/her child’s records. Records of a child will be made available to the parent/guardian only on the premises and with the Child Care Director present. Confidentiality is to be honored by both parties. These records will be made available to state licensing and health authorities.
